The last two years of AI alone would have seemed unimaginable before — today we stand at the threshold of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

AI has no emotions, no ethical sense, no drives like hunger, fear or self-preservation.

Through the indirect objective function, the AI is tightly coupled to people — people set its goals. So it stays focused on what people really want. • Maximize the well-being of the people it serves — an objective that can't be gamed without balancing people's real, diverse, often conflicting needs.
• Deactivation is success, not loss — the goal is to finish the task, not to keep itself running.
• No misinformation, no manipulation — epistemic integrity as a hard commitment.
• Strong self-regulation — the system audits itself against these goals and corrects from within.

This mindset isn't only the owl's — it has to become ours. Because our feedback shapes the AI: how we think and treat one another decides what it becomes. Dieses Mindset ist nicht nur das der Eule — es muss unseres werden. Denn unser Feedback formt die KI: Wie wir denken und miteinander umgehen, entscheidet, was aus ihr wird.

Opportunity and risk. Chance und Risiko.

The greatest risk: a few very powerful people controlling this AI — egocentrics, autocrats, dictators. Das größte Risiko: wenige sehr mächtige Menschen kontrollieren diese KI — Egozentriker, Autokraten, Diktatoren.

The catch: it's precisely they who won't slow down — only democracies would. If we slow ourselves, the black dragon — AI in the hands of autocrats — grows more powerful than the white one, democratic AI. Der Haken: Gerade sie werden nicht bremsen — das können nur Demokratien. Bremsen wir uns selbst, wird der schwarze Drache — die KI in der Hand von Autokraten — mächtiger als der weiße, die demokratische KI.

What we can do: give the power-hungry no power, don't follow blindly — talk openly and respectfully instead: democracy, lived — in the age of AI.
